Description

The Women’s Ride is a state-wide festival of women’s cycling, led by Cycling Victoria, which celebrates women’s cycling participation.

Deakin University and the Whitehouse City Council have organised an event for Deakin staff, students and Whitehorse Council residents to share in the celebrations and festivities.

The event offers two ride options for women and families, morning tea, and information about things like how to change a flat tyre and advice regarding commuting by bike. What’s more, you’ll meet plenty of friendly, like-minded people who will support you to achieve your cycling goals.

The event will take place at the Burwood campus of Deakin University.

Two rides are planned:

The Women’s Ride for those with a little cycling experience who feel they are ready to ride approximately 15km in 1.5 hours on an off-road shared path. A Novice/family ride which is approximately 6km in length – Parents need to supervise children at all times along the ride. If you are unsure about your riding experience, you can contact the event organiser for guidance (details below). Two free cycle training courses are available the weekend before the event if you need some extra help! (See course details here and here. Places are limited.)

Both rides will use the picturesque Gardiners Creek Trail, so the rides are off road.

Tina McCarthy, founder of Wheel Women, and her colleagues, will be leading the rides. Tina has extensive experience supporting women on bikes and organising women’s rides. Find out more about Wheel Women here.

Here’s the schedule for the event:

7:30am – 8am: Registration

8am – 9:30am: Women’s Ride (15km)

9:30am – 10:30am: Morning tea, stalls and information

10:30am – 11:30am: Novice/Family Ride (6km)

To book a place in one of the rides, click ‘register’ and choose the ride that you would like to take part in (places are limited on each ride). Please also let us know if you are planning to come along for the morning tea and information displays for planning and catering purpose.
